My Amazing (And Unrealistic) Experience

LEFT-The Alley I walked

One night, I was walking back home from a supermarket near my house because my mom told me to buy some cooking ingredients such as butter, eggs, etc. When I was walking past an alley, I heard someone groaning and screaming for help. I couldn’t let those screams go on, so I decided to check on it. When I arrived at where the scream came from, I could see 2 men beating a teenager. Since I didn’t know what had happened, I assumed that the men were beating him for money. Because I can’t stand seeing a helpless teenager getting beaten, I yelled at the men. Then they turned towards me. I hadn’t noticed that there was nothing I could use as a weapon so; I took the eggs I had bought earlier and threw those at them like they were grenades. It worked, and the beaten teenager tried to take his revenge by beating the guys until they were unconscious. The teenager thanked me and he offered me to buy the eggs that I had used to help him and I accepted it. Man, that was one unforgettable experience…

My Surabaya City

As mentioned in our profile, we live in Surabaya, and we were born in Surabaya. We spent more than 13 years in Surabaya and now, we are used to the environment of the city. Now, we will tell you more about Surabaya.

Surabaya is the biggest city and the capital city of East Java and it is on the coast of Java. It is located on the north coast, south of Madura Island. Surabaya is located at the mouth of Kalimas. Surabaya has a big port called “Tanjung Perak”, which is the main port of East Java. Surabaya stands for “Sura” or shark and “Baya” or crocodile, they were battling for the conquest over the sea, therefore, Surabaya’s symbol is Shark and Crocodile battling (as you see in the left picture)

Surabaya has a nickname. It is called “The City of Heroes”. Surabaya got that nickname from the famous battle between the Indonesian (or called “Arek-Arek Suroboyo”) and the Dutch in November the 10th, 1945 at Hotel Yamato (now it is “Hotel Majapahit”). During that battle, an Indonesian warrior tore the blue part from the Dutch’s flag, leaving only the red and white part. Indonesia’s flag was taken from this event.

Surabaya is a hot city. The temperature of Surabaya is between 28-32 degrees. It is also very crowded. There are many traffic jams in the streets of Surabaya. There are also markets in Surabaya, which only open at night when no other markets are open. People in Surabaya are friendly and have a strong brotherhood against one and another (once you get used with them…) so, don’t be surprised if you see them helping other people.

Surabaya has a lot of tourist attraction places. One of them is called “Bonbin Surabaya” or Surabaya Zoo. There are many animals to see here from common to rare animals. The ticket price is not too expensive. It can be easily recognized since it is next to Surabaya’s symbol. There are also many shopping malls here in Surabaya. The two famous malls are Galaxy Mall and Plaza Tunjungan. There is also a waterpark here in Surabaya. It is called Ciputra Waterpark, which is located in Ciputra Residence. If you want to see more historical documentation about Surabaya, you can go to a museum called “Museum Mpu Tantular”. There is also a memorial monument called “Tugu Pahlawan” to commemorate the 10th November battle.
